About safourA
Safoura Safavi was born in Tehran and raised in northern Sweden. She started writing songs at the age of 13 and later studied music at Hvitfeldtska Gymnasiet in Gothenburg. She then moved to Seville to study flamenco at Fundación Cristina Heeren, training under renowned artists such as Miguel Ángel Cortés, Eduardo Rebollar, Niño de Pura and Javier Lozano Romero, among others.
Safoura co-founded Abjeez with her sister Melody, an eight-member DIY band and pioneers of Persian alternative music with a female lead and feminist lyrics following the 1979 revolution. The group introduced Persian reggae and ska, earned a Tribeca Film Festival nomination for their self-made music video “Eddeaa”, and received international attention from outlets including The New York Times, BBC World and Democracy Now. In 2016, they were invited to the White House for Michelle Obama’s Nowruz celebration.
Safoura completed a Bachelor’s degree in Sound Design for Performing Arts in 2015 and a Master’s degree in Performing Arts in 2021. As a freelance sound designer and composer she has worked on dozens of theatre productions on many stages across Sweden. She founded her band SASA in 2023 and Salong SASA in 2024. In 2024 she also became a Certified Coach.
Today, Safoura works at the intersection of art, sound, creative leadership and human development, with the aim of inspiring others to explore and trust their own creative force.

SASA
One summer day on a beach in central Stockholm, Safoura Safavi, David Douhan, and Marcus Bouquelon crossed paths and discovered a shared love for the music of The Police. What began as a spontaneous bond over rhythm, groove and songs they all held close soon turned into a Police cover band called POLIZEI.
Before long, the collaboration outgrew its initial form. SASA emerged as the trio’s own creative force, shaped by Safoura Safavi’s bass and vocals, David Douhan’s guitars and keys, and Marcus Bouquelon’s driving drums. Blending rock, reggae, and flamenco, SASA crafts a distinctive sound rooted in rhythm, rich harmonies and honest emotion. With lyrics in English, Farsi, Swedish and Spanish, their music carries stories of life and the world we move through.
